Preamble Probstuecke Digital is a digital edition. All musical and textual parts are encoded in XML. This encoding follows the standards of the Music Encoding Initiative (MEI) and of the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) and builds the core of the edition, which then can be visualised with appropriate software. Due to its nature of a digital edition, these edition guidelines are partially encoding guidelines as well. Music The original clefs as well as clef changes are preserved in the encodings. Accidentals in the source that may be omitted in modern scores are enclosed in an orig element. Accidentals that are missing for a modern score are enclosed in a reg element, which itself is contained within a supplied. Original double bar lines at the end of a piece are adapted to the modern practice. Original stem directions are not explicitly encoded. When clear mistakes occur in the original print, both, the original as well as a correction should be encoded, using a sic and a corr element enclosed in a choice element. The corr element should contain a @resp attribute. In the original print, accidentals are printed sometimes before and sometimes behind the figure (e.g. ♭6 or 6♭). The original form is preserved in an orig element inside a choice element and reg is used to unify them in the modern form (accidental behind figure). The responsibility for the regularization should be stated with the @resp attribute. 6♭ ♭6 In general, editorial additions are marked as supplied, where the @resp attribute should be used to indicate the responsible editor. Text All texts are provided as a diplomatic transcription, preserving original line breaks, orthography, mistakes and other idiosyncrasies. Text portions of this edition follow the guidelines of the DTA ›Base Format‹ (DTABf). Thus, only deviations from the DTABf are specified here. All / of the original texts are reproduced as normal commata (,). All line breaks and page breaks are preserved (this is not yet encoded in all documents). Following the TEI Guidelines, lb elements encode the beginning of a line, not line breaks, as specified by the DTABf. Musical meters and thorough-bass figures in the text are encoded using a /. Editorial notes (note) should indicate the responsible editor using the @resp attribute. To encode musical examples in the the text, the element notatedMusic is allowed within paragraphs (p). notatedMusic must contain a ptr linking to the corresponding MEI encoding. When the text is referencing a particular measure, note, clef etc. of the score, a ref element should be used, with the @target attribute pointing to the corresponding element(s) of the score. Foreign words in the continuous text are marked with the foreign tag, while foreign-language quotations are marked only with the corresponding attribute on the quote tag.
